Field Interviewer – Hull

About the role

As a Field Interviewer you will visit households in Hull and surrounding areas to carry out research interviews on topics such as health, housing and transport. Using a tablet or laptop you will guide conversations that capture real experiences of daily life in Britain.

Key responsibilities

• Knock on doors and conduct face‑to‑face interviews with residents who have received a prior invitation letter.
• Record responses accurately on a tablet or laptop following NatCen’s interview protocol.
• Manage travel to and from interview locations, logging mileage and travel time.
• Maintain confidentiality and data security for all participants.
• Report any issues or refusals to the project coordinator.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car.
• Class 1 business insurance for the vehicle.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• At least 18 hours available per week with flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal and written English.

Required skills

• Ability to operate a laptop or tablet with camera.
• Comfort with basic technology and data entry.

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per interview (typical rate).
• Admin fees and holiday pay (12.1%).
• Travel time paid at £4.68 per hour (most projects).
• Mileage reimbursement at 36p per mile (up to 10,000 miles).
• £250 bonus after launch, with additional bonuses at two and four months.
• Average hourly rate of £15.12, higher for experienced interviewers.
