Field Interviewer – Part‑time (Luton)

About the role

We are looking for part‑time Field Interviewers in Luton to conduct face‑to‑face research interviews in people’s homes. Using a tablet or laptop you will collect data on topics such as health, housing and transport, helping NatCen produce evidence that shapes public policy.

Key responsibilities

• Visit households in the assigned area, knock on doors and introduce the interview.
• Conduct structured interviews using a tablet/laptop, recording respondents’ experiences accurately.
• Handle refusals professionally and maintain a respectful approach.
• Submit interview data and related paperwork promptly.
• Track travel time and mileage according to NatCen guidelines.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car with Class 1 business insurance.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• Minimum 18 hours availability per week, with flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.

Required skills

• Basic proficiency with tablets or laptops for data entry.
• Ability to use simple technology (e‑mail, video interview platforms).

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per completed interview, plus admin fees, holiday pay (12.1 %) and travel compensation (£4.68 / hour, mileage 36p per mile).
• Performance bonuses: £250 after launch and additional £250 at two‑ and four‑month milestones.
• Average hourly rate around £15.12, higher for experienced interviewers.
• Flexible part‑time schedule that can be combined with other commitments.
