Field Service Commissioning Engineer – Decanters

About the role

Alfa Laval UK & Ireland are seeking a Field Service Commissioning Engineer to support decanters and other core equipment at customer sites across the UK. The role combines mechanical, electrical and electronic expertise to ensure reliable operation, optimum performance and efficiency of high‑speed rotating equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Commission, service and fault‑find new and existing decanters and related equipment.
• Perform I/O tests on control systems and conduct electrical and mechanical diagnostics.
• Run trial tests after work completion to verify performance against specifications.
• Document serviced equipment, parts used and travel hours for invoicing.
• Carry out preventive mechanical maintenance and emergency repairs on customer sites.
• Train customer maintenance staff on operation and upkeep of equipment.
• Provide process and technical support to customers and internal teams.
• Collaborate with the sales team on equipment audits to generate new business and meet service KPIs.

Required profile

• Completed apprenticeship or recognised technical qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC, Degree).
• Strong background in mechanical and electrical maintenance, preferably with separation equipment.
• Ability to work independently, travel frequently and stay away from home for several nights.
• Good physical fitness and a full driving licence.
• Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.

• Mechanical maintenance of rotating equipment.

• SCADA and PLC familiarity.
• Reading and interpreting schematic diagrams.
• PC and laptop literacy for reporting and analysis.
