Field Service Engineer – Automation & Maintenance

About the role

Join Imperium Automation as a Field Service Engineer, delivering installation, maintenance and repair of advanced material handling, conveyor, packaging and robotics equipment at customer sites across the South West.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission and test new automation equipment on‑site.
• Provide 24/7 reactive maintenance, responding to breakdowns and performing preventative maintenance.
• Cover shift work and travel to multiple distribution centres and warehouses.
• Collaborate with resident engineering teams, ensuring professional representation of Imperium Automation.
• Assist with project installations and upgrades, minimising downtime.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent apprenticeship in Electrical or Multi‑Skilled engineering.
• Proven experience working in automated distribution centres.
• Strong understanding of health & safety, risk assessments, method statements and permits.
• Ability to work independently and alongside customer teams.
• Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends.

Required skills

• Electrical installation and troubleshooting.
• PLC programming and diagnostics.
• IPAF certification – comfortable working at height and in confined spaces.
