Field Service Engineer – Instrumentation (Single‑Skilled)

About the role

Join United Utilities as an Instrumentation Field Service Engineer and be the frontline expert keeping our water‑treatment and distribution assets running smoothly. You will work both independently and as part of a skilled team, delivering proactive, planned and reactive support across a modern, fast‑paced maintenance environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform high‑quality instrumentation maintenance, installation and repairs to maximise asset performance.
• Diagnose and resolve faults in instrumentation, control and electrical systems with accuracy.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance and respond to emergency breakdowns.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety, statutory and regulatory requirements, including confined‑space work.
• Maintain accurate asset performance data and cost control records.
• Analyse recurring issues and propose long‑term engineering solutions.

Required profile

• Recognised, time‑served apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
• Full UK driving licence for mobile field work.
• Proven experience in instrumentation, electrical maintenance or engineering, preferably in a utilities or process environment.
• Willingness to work out‑of‑hours standby rota and in confined spaces.
