Field Service Technician

About the role

The Field Service Technician will provide effective maintenance support for rail freight vehicles, developing a broad range of engineering skills while ensuring assets operate safely and reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled maintenance at approved locations.
• Perform electrical and mechanical repairs on locomotives and rolling stock.
• Conduct assessments and testing to verify component performance.
• Follow all safety, risk‑assessment and method‑statement procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, both written and digital.
• Uphold high standards of site cleanliness and carry out unsupervised maintenance tasks.
• Adhere to SHEQ requirements, wearing full PPE and following personal duty of care.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Ability to work safely in a railway environment and follow company policies.
• Capability to work under direction of Team Leader and Production Manager.

Required skills

• Electrical repair of rail equipment.
• Mechanical repair of locomotives and rolling stock.
• Maintenance documentation using Carl Source and FAM asset‑management systems.
• Familiarity with Train Operation Manuals, inspections and safety tours.
