Finance Assistant (12‑month fixed term)

About the role

This is a 12‑month fixed‑term, full‑time position based in Hartlepool supporting a leading UK fuel supplier during maternity cover. You will join a dynamic, forward‑thinking finance team and work closely with senior managers on daily cash and ledger activities.

Key responsibilities

• Post and reconcile daily company payments, ensuring all unreconciled items are accounted for.
• Petty cash reconciliation and month‑end close.
• Prepare and issue daily cash flash reports to senior stakeholders with commentary on large movements.
• Manage daily cash‑flow forecast and oversee bulk/third‑party supplier reconciliations.
• Maintain the statement reconciliation tracker and prepare the weekly payment run for review.
• Review and sign off weekly customer refunds and aged creditors reports.
• Reconcile Fuelsoft fuel‑card accounts to the ERP system.
• Identify efficiencies, implement new controls and automation projects in purchase ledger and credit control.
• Run and review monthly RDCO data, ensuring accurate usage codes.
• Prepare monthly marketing budget variance analysis and customer satisfaction reports for board packs.

• Strong communicator who thrives in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office and bespoke finance systems.
• Detail‑oriented with a professional, accurate and diligent attitude.
• Self‑motivated with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new processes.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (pivot tables, SUM functions, data analysis).
• AAT qualification or equivalent bookkeeping knowledge.
• Experience with QBE or similar accounting software.
