Finance Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a Finance Assistant to support the finance team of a well‑established organisation in Edinburgh. The role is a 12‑month fixed‑term position offering flexible working, including one day per week in the office and half‑day Fridays.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process sales invoices using Excel and Sage 200.
• Manage credit control and maintain accurate customer accounts.
• Process purchase invoices and coordinate approvals.
• Run supplier payments and ensure timely disbursements.
• Perform weekly bank downloads and monthly bank reconciliations.
• Handle deposits, banking records, mandates and authorised signatory information.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns via Making Tax Digital (MTD).
• Reconcile recharge nominal codes and investigate variances.
• Update financial control sheets and assist with loan documentation.
• Provide general administrative support and ad‑hoc finance tasks.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Bookkeeper or similar role.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proactive, reliable and able to work independently as well as within a team.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude.

What we offer

• Salary £28,000‑£30,000 per year (depending on experience).
• 37.5 hours per week.
