Finance Assistant – School Business & Administration

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Finance Assistant to join the Business and Administration team of a residential special school and college. The role supports the finance function in a fast‑paced environment, ensuring accurate financial processing for both school operations and pupil placement costs.

Key responsibilities

• Process purchase and sales invoices.
• Maintain accurate financial records and databases.
• Support credit control activities.
• Handle banking, petty cash, and credit‑card transactions.
• Perform monthly reconciliations.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end procedures.
• Coordinate orders and liaise with suppliers and local authorities.
• Support pupil placement costings and agreements.
• Produce financial reports and ensure audit‑ready record keeping.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented and able to work under tight deadlines.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Willingness to undergo school compliance checks, including an Enhanced DBS.

Required skills

What we offer

• Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week (52 weeks per year) contract.
• Hourly rate of £14.30‑£16.00, equivalent to £25,989‑£27,694 per annum.
• Potential for permanent employment based on performance.
