Finance Assistant with Study Support – Fashion (Hybrid, Birmingham)

About the role

This is a broad transactional and month‑end support position within a fast‑growing, multi‑entity consumer fashion business. You will work across the purchase ledger, month‑end close and payroll administration while collaborating with finance, operations, merchandising and logistics teams. The role offers real exposure to a scaling finance function rather than a narrow specialism.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the purchase ledger / accounts payable process and prepare weekly payment runs for approval.
• Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and month‑end procedures, including reconciliations.
• Support the year‑end audit process and own the goods‑in‑transit accounting for carriage and duty costs.
• Oversee accuracy checks of supplier invoicing and work with the data team on ad‑hoc control projects.
• Handle payroll administration tasks, summarising changes for approval.
• Perform general administrative duties as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a finance or accounts function.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational ability and capacity to work at pace.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Desirable: AAT Level 3/4 qualification or studying towards it, two+ years in finance, experience in e‑commerce/fashion/retail, familiarity with payroll processes.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel – handling large data volumes.
• Experience with accounting software, preferably Xero.
