About the role

This full‑time temporary position supports the Growth and Prosperity Directorate, focusing on finance business partnering within a council environment. The successful candidate will lead a team, drive financial innovation, and ensure compliance with public sector policies.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to council financial policies and requirements.
• Identify and propose opportunities for innovation, commercialisation, cost savings, cost recovery, or income generation.
• Manage the Finance Business Partnering Team to meet service standards and HR policies.
• Monitor customer feedback, improve experience, and exceed satisfaction targets.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness.
• Comply with health and safety, information governance, and other council policies.
• Escalate risks and issues that could impact performance or reputation.
• Improve employee engagement, manage performance, and support development of direct reports.
• Identify and develop talent, encouraging continuous professional development.
• Build change‑readiness capability within the finance partnering team.

Required profile

• Experience with regeneration schemes or programmes and capital appraisals.
• Background working with joint ventures.
• Proven team management experience.
• Ability to operate within council or public‑sector financial frameworks.
• Strong analytical and commercial mindset.
