Finance Director

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially‑minded Finance Director to join the finance leadership team at Accountancy Action in St. Albans. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be responsible for financial reporting, audit management, compliance, and the day‑to‑day leadership of the finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee bookkeeping, accounting and month‑end processes; prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts.
• Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and manage annual and interim audits.
• Maintain the chart of accounts and reporting framework within SAP, ensuring robust financial controls.
• Lead tax compliance activities including VAT returns, corporation tax, capital allowances and R&D tax claims.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, aged debtors and manage operational and capital expenditure payment runs.
• Support the development and integration of finance systems, driving process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a high‑performance culture.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified.
• Extensive experience in financial reporting, management accounting and financial analysis.
• Advanced Excel and systems proficiency.
• Proven leadership and people‑management experience.
• Strong understanding of financial controls and regulatory compliance.
