Finance Manager – Construction Business

About the role

An established construction business in Merseyside is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of its finance function. Working closely with the Managing Director, you will provide financial oversight, ensure strong cash management, accurate reporting and effective financial controls. This hands‑on role is suited to a commercially minded professional who can work independently.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the overall finance function.
• Prepare and monitor cash‑flow forecasts, including short‑ and medium‑term projections.
• Manage banking relationships, funding arrangements and finance facilities.
• Produce monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis.
• Monitor project performance, margins, profitability and overheads.
• Oversee debtor and creditor management, supplier payments and customer collections.
• Ensure regular reconciliation of bank accounts and key balance‑sheet items.
• Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with VAT, CIS, PAYE and other regulations.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or similar senior finance role.
• Strong management accounting, forecasting and cash‑flow experience.
• Commercially aware with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of the finance function.
