Finance Manager

About the role

This senior Finance Manager position sits within a well‑established public sector organisation in County Durham. You will lead a small finance team and own a broad range of financial functions that support vital local services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and motivate a small finance team.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, year‑end accounts and the delivery of the medium‑term financial plan.
• Ensure robust financial governance, controls and compliance across the organisation.
• Manage audit processes, treasury activities, payroll and income functions.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to provide strategic financial insight and support decision‑making.

Required profile

• Proactive finance professional with proven financial management experience, ideally in local government or the public sector.
• Strong knowledge of financial regulations, governance and reporting standards.
• Demonstrated experience preparing budgets, accounts and financial plans.
• Excellent leadership and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Relevant accountancy qualification (or working towards one).
