Finance Officer – Part‑time (22 hrs/week)

About the role

This part‑time Finance Officer position supports the day‑to‑day finance function of a well‑established organisation in West Sussex. Working closely with the Finance Manager, you will handle transactional finance, reconciliations, budget monitoring and reporting support across a 41‑week academic year.

Key responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
• Process purchase orders and supplier invoices.
• Perform regular bank and petty‑cash reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers.
• Monitor expenditure against budgets and report variances.
• Support monthly cash‑flow forecasting.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end financial processes, including VAT recording.
• Investigate and resolve invoice and payment discrepancies.
• Support procurement activities and supplier management.
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures and data‑protection requirements.

Required profile

• Experience in a finance officer, accounts assistant or similar role.
• Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliations.
• Experience monitoring budgets and financial performance.
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Effective communication with both financial and non‑financial stakeholders.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel (including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP).
