Finance & Payroll Assistant – Temporary Contractor

About the role

This temporary, full‑time position supports a busy finance team within an education organisation. You will manage the monthly payroll cycle while also handling sales ledger administration, invoicing and general finance support.

Key responsibilities

• Run the end‑to‑end monthly payroll process, including data entry, employee payments and reporting.
• Administer workplace pension schemes and maintain related records.
• Maintain the sales ledger, process invoice enquiries and assist with debt collection.
• Prepare and issue termly invoices, update cashbooks and post transactions.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations and support month‑end close activities.
• Assist with annual audit requirements and provide finance documentation.
• Contribute to ad‑hoc finance projects and reporting requests.
• Provide cover for other finance team members as needed.

Required profile

• AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent.
• Previous payroll experience, preferably in a school or complex payroll environment.
• Strong bookkeeping knowledge and high attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• AAT Level 4 qualification.
