Finance Support Officer

About the role

The Finance Support Officer joins the Business Support team to provide high‑quality financial and administrative services across the district. Working from the Bellingham or Grizedale office, you will ensure financial transactions are processed accurately, on time, and in line with Forestry England policies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the finance mailbox, responding to customer and supplier enquiries promptly.
• Process purchase and sales invoices, credit notes and ensure correct VAT treatment.
• Verify new supplier requests, amend existing ones and provide guidance as needed.
• Reconcile supplier statements and chase missing invoices.
• Support district teams with procurement and financial processes.
• Prepare monthly accruals and assist with month‑end reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
• Conduct process reviews to improve efficiency and carry out audits of financial data.
• Provide timely responses to internal queries and monitor cross‑departmental requests.
• Deliver training, cover office duties and contribute to ad‑hoc projects.

Required profile

• Professional experience in finance or accounting support.
• Strong numeracy, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent task prioritisation and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software and bespoke IT applications.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, sorting and filtering.
• Experience using databases and other Microsoft Office applications.
