Financial Accountant 12 month FTC

About the role

We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join the finance team of an energy business in London on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The role combines hands‑on bookkeeping with technical accounting responsibilities in a fast‑paced energy trading environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day financial accounting and bookkeeping activities.
• Maintain accurate General Ledger records, including journal postings and reconciliations.
• Lead month‑end close and support management reporting.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Apply technical accounting guidance to new and complex transactions.
• Support accounting for energy trading activities and related financial instruments.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting policies.
• Work closely with auditors and key finance stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent) with a technical accounting background.
• Strong practical bookkeeping and financial accounting experience.
• Hands‑on experience managing the General Ledger and month‑end close.
• Knowledge of IFRS 9 (Financial Instruments) and IFRS 16 (Leases).
• Experience with hedge accounting in a commercial or trading environment.
