Financial Accountant

About the role

Cakesmiths, a leading UK baker specialising in traybakes and coffee‑shop products, is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its Bristol finance team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will ensure the accuracy of financial statements, support internal reporting and play a key role in the year‑end audit.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the monthly trial balance and Holdco management accounts within a 5‑day close.
• Produce group consolidated monthly management accounts and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Compile monthly group reporting schedules, including foreign‑exchange adjustments.
• Develop and maintain Power BI reports to provide financial insight.
• Manage the accounts‑payable function, ensuring timely supplier payments and accurate invoice processing.
• Maintain stock purchase price records and internal product costing sheets.
• Line‑manage two junior finance team members, setting objectives and providing support.
• Assist the Head of Finance with the year‑end audit, statutory accounts and audit query responses.
• Oversee the accounts inbox, ensure prompt responses and high customer service standards.
• Prepare and review monthly VAT returns and collaborate with other functions to improve controls.
• Deputise for the Head of Finance when required and handle ad‑hoc finance tasks.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Minimum 3 years of relevant finance/accounting experience.
• Proven experience in month‑end close, accounts payable and audit processes.
• Experience managing junior staff and delivering accurate financial reporting.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
