Financial Accountant

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term position is for a qualified or near‑qualified accountant to join a high‑performing finance team. You will own the accounting function for a portfolio of business activities, work closely with senior finance stakeholders and support operational performance, governance and strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and financial commentary.
• Support the delivery of statutory accounts and act as a key contact during audit processes.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow planning activities.
• Manage general‑ledger activities, ensuring accurate journals, reconciliations and reporting.
• Prepare VAT, tax‑related information and other statutory financial submissions.
• Oversee balance‑sheet reconciliations and maintain robust financial controls.
• Provide insight on complex accounting matters and support technical accounting requirements.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams, external advisors and key financial stakeholders.

Required profile

• Qualified or nearly qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Strong experience in management accounting and financial reporting.
• Confidence preparing statutory accounts and supporting audit processes.
• Good understanding of accounting standards and financial controls.
• Proactive approach with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
• Experience in infrastructure, construction or regulated services is advantageous but not essential.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.

• Competitive salary of £45,000‑£55,000 per year.
