Financial Controller – Construction (Manchester)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, fully qualified Financial Controller to join a growing construction project‑led business in Manchester. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own the month‑end accounts process, financial controls and project reporting, playing a key part in the finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and month‑end journals.
• Own the month‑end close process and maintain robust financial controls.
• Complete and review all key balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Produce cash‑flow forecasts, budgets and variance analysis.
• Support project accounting, cost tracking and profitability reporting.
• Prepare VAT returns and manage HMRC correspondence.
• Assist with statutory accounts preparation and year‑end audit requirements.
• Monitor debtor and creditor positions, providing meaningful financial insight to management.

Required profile

• Fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
• Strong experience of CIS.
• Previous experience as a Management Accountant or similar role.
• Strong month‑end and management accounts experience.
• Excellent reconciliation and financial control skills.
• Experience preparing VAT returns and managing compliance requirements.
• Confident communicator able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
