Financial Controller – Energy Trading

About the role

We are partnering with a leading energy business in London that needs a Financial Controller to support both trading and business control functions. You will play a key part in maintaining robust financial controls, delivering profitability insights, and driving continuous improvement across the UK energy markets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage month‑end close, statutory reporting and audit coordination.
• Oversee derivatives accounting, valuation and related controls.
• Own IFRS policy implementation, including IFRS 9 and mark‑to‑market accounting.
• Provide commercial insight, profitability analysis and KPI reporting.
• Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in energy or trading finance.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS 9 and mark‑to‑market accounting.
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Analytical, organised and effective communicator.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (including VBA).
• Python scripting for finance tasks.
• Experience with SAP (beneficial).
• Derivatives accounting and valuation.
