Financial Controller – Hazardous Materials Specialist

About the role

This is a hands‑on Financial Controller position within a fast‑growing specialist safety business that manages hazardous materials for critical industrial sectors. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will own the finance function and lead a small dedicated team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
• Deliver timely and accurate financial statements in line with UK accounting standards.
• Monitor cash flow and working capital to ensure financial stability.
• Lead financial planning to support strategic growth initiatives.
• Ensure tax compliance and manage external auditors and advisors.
• Develop and maintain robust financial controls and governance frameworks.
• Provide commercial insight and strategic recommendations to senior management.
• Support system improvements, including ERP and financial reporting tools.
• Partner with operational teams to drive efficiency and cost control.

Required profile

• ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent).
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance role within an SME.
• Background in highly transactional B2B environments is advantageous.
• Experience working with UK businesses that have an EU presence.
• Strong understanding of financial controls, compliance and reporting.
• Experience managing finance systems and ERP platforms.
• Commercially astute, proactive and confident communicator.
• Ability to operate both strategically and hands‑on in a growing business.
