Financial Controller

About the role

Maples is seeking a Financial Controller to report to the Finance Director and lead the finance and reporting function. This hands‑on leadership role combines technical accounting expertise with commercial insight, supporting decision‑making and driving financial performance across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop a small finance team.
• Prepare and deliver accurate monthly management accounts, financial reports and board packs.
• Maintain cash‑flow forecasts and ensure sufficient liquidity.
• Own the budgeting and forecasting process in partnership with senior stakeholders.
• Monitor financial performance, provide variance analysis and actionable insights.
• Oversee month‑end and year‑end processes, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processes.
• Lead treasury management and cash‑flow optimisation.
• Ensure statutory reporting, tax compliance and liaise with external advisors.
• Review and enhance financial systems, processes and controls.

Required profile

• Fully or part‑qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or AAT).
• Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
• Proactive mindset with ability to challenge and influence stakeholders.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a finance team.
