Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, commercially‑focused Financial Controller to join a market‑leading organisation in Crewe (or Congleton). Reporting to the Finance Director, you will lead the finance function for a major operational contract, delivering accurate reporting, analysis and strategic support to senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day management of the finance function for a major operational contract.
• Own monthly management accounts, forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Manage the end‑to‑end client payment application process.
• Provide accurate financial information and analysis to support operational and commercial decisions.
• Partner with senior operational managers to improve performance and identify continuous‑improvement opportunities.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting against strict deadlines.
• Support strategic business projects and wider finance initiatives.
• Contribute to risk management and continuous improvement across the business.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients.

Required profile

• Fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant.
• Previous experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Management Accountant.
• Strong management accounting, budgeting and forecasting experience.
• Contract accounting experience (essential).
• Excellent technical accounting knowledge.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to finance and non‑finance audiences.
• Strong leadership and people‑management skills.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proactive, pragmatic and solutions‑focused approach.
