Financial Controller

About the role

An established Essex business is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join its senior management team. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead the finance function, support commercial projects and help drive continuous improvement across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts and statutory accounts
• Develop, monitor and report on budgets and cash‑flow forecasts
• Analyse gross margins, manage the fixed‑asset register and evaluate project finances
• Lead board reporting and attend board meetings
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors, HMRC and banking partners
• Oversee VAT returns, payroll, PAYE reconciliation and pension administration
• Authorise journals, manage payment runs and supervise month‑end and year‑end close
• Improve finance systems, processes and cost‑management reporting
• Provide financial information and budget reporting to managers across the business
• Manage and develop the finance team

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with extensive Financial Controller experience
• Strong commercial awareness and proactive problem‑solving attitude
• Excellent communication skills, able to work closely with the Managing Director, board and senior managers
• Team‑player with drive, initiative and a focus on continuous improvement
