Financial Controller

About the role

AFR Consulting is seeking an experienced Finance professional to act as the site Finance lead. Reporting to the Group CFO and the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the financial health of a specialised manufacturing operation and will manage a small finance and administration team.

Key responsibilities

• Produce management accounts and board reports on a regular basis.
• Prepare cash‑flow forecasts to meet tight reporting deadlines.
• Create budgets, monitor performance and analyse variances.
• Develop, maintain and improve KPI reporting.
• Review and implement cost‑reduction strategies.
• Manage cash‑flow, control expenditure and oversee cost management.
• Conduct investment and CAPEX appraisals.
• Control all transactional activity and ensure accurate accounting.
• Prepare statutory accounts, tax, VAT and HMRC filings.
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors and other external partners.
• Collaborate across sales, technical and production teams to support overall financial performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a financial management role within a growing SME.
• Manufacturing or engineering sector experience is highly advantageous.
• Hands‑on leadership of a small finance/administration team.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial colleagues.
• Understanding of production and warehousing cost structures.
• Senior‑level finance expertise, suitable for a Financial Controller or Finance Manager.
