Financial Controls Lead

About the role

This role is a senior position within a respected organisation in Liverpool, responsible for safeguarding financial integrity and driving operational excellence. You will shape and maintain a robust financial control environment, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and efficient treasury and finance operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting and ensure compliance with statutory regulations and accounting standards.
• Monitor general ledger postings and cost‑centre allocations to maintain high‑quality financial information.
• Develop, review and maintain accounting policies and procedures aligned with reporting standards and internal controls.
• Facilitate project cost tracking and support contract implementation reporting.
• Own the Finance Risk Register, monitor risks and update mitigation strategies.
• Conduct financial due‑diligence on new suppliers.
• Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives within Finance.
• Manage treasury activities, including banking mandates, payment platform access and reconciliations.
• Collaborate with Finance Operations Managers to design efficient transactional processes.
• Support internal and external audit activities, providing evidence and guidance.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant status (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
• Proven experience in financial governance, reporting and risk management.
• Strong understanding of statutory regulations and accounting standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
