Financial Planning & Analysis Controller

About the role

Reporting to the Finance Director and acting as a business partner to the Executive Board, this role understudies the Finance Director and leadership team across a group of companies. It provides end-to-end Financial Planning & Analysis to support better-informed decisions across the whole group. The position is based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

Key responsibilities

• Produce a monthly executive summary from the Group monthly management accounts, including P&L analysis and a performance paper highlighting key items.
• Build a high-level business plan with a 6-monthly update.
• Enhance and facilitate the annual group budgeting process so it is completed on time and in line with business plans.
• Create detailed 12-, 36- and 60-month business plans for revenue and cost centres, refreshed annually.
• Prepare budgets for revenue, operational costs, gross profit and net profit margins, plus quarterly detailed reviews with sensitivity analysis.
• Monitor, challenge and analyse performance against budget and agree adjustments with the Finance Director.
• Create and develop a rolling 3-month and 12-month cashflow forecast.
• Monitor cash balances within agreed banking facilities and minimise bank transaction and financing costs.
• Monitor and report on the working capital position.
• Track and review forecast overseas currency transactions to enable hedging in line with the group's FX hedging policy.
• Support investment and project appraisals, and analyse business opportunities and potential acquisitions.

Required profile

• Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/ACMA).
• Experience in a precision manufacturing business.
• Experience of participating in or supporting a board or executive team.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Curious, numerate, analytical, efficient, commercially focused, credible, with leadership potential.

Required skills

• Financial modelling.
• High proficiency in financial software, Microsoft Excel and tools such as Power BI.
• Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
