Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting Service Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, customer‑focused Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting Service Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault‑finding and carrying out remedial works on a variety of fire safety and associated electrical systems, ensuring compliance with current British Standards and delivering exceptional service to our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Service, test, maintain and fault‑find fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems, dry riser, disabled refuge and HHE (Hearing & Hard of Hearing) systems.
• Carry out remedial works, small installations and commissioning tasks, including low‑voltage (230 V) electrical work related to fire safety.
• Survey existing installations and provide recommendations for upgrades or improvements.
• Complete service reports, defect lists, job cards and compliance paperwork accurately.
• Manage stock levels, vehicle inventory and participate in the on‑call rota.
• Maintain high standards of health & safety, workmanship and technical accuracy.

Required profile

• Minimum five years’ experience in fire alarm and emergency lighting servicing.
• FIA qualifications such as FIA Foundation, BS5839‑1 Fundamentals (Units 1 & 2) and Emergency Lighting Parts 1 & 2.
• Strong knowledge of BS5839, BS5266 and other relevant British Standards.
• IT literate with good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage workloads and build strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
