Fluid Mechanical Design Placement – Test Rig (12.5 months)

About the role

Start date is 16 August 2027 for a 12.5‑month placement based in Filton, Bristol. You will join the Laboratory Test Means development team, working on the design, modification and commissioning of test rigs for fuel and landing‑gear systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new test rigs from requirements capture through detailed design, manufacturing, integration and commissioning.
• Modify existing test rigs to accommodate new test requests.
• Troubleshoot test rig issues in a hazardous environment involving jet fuel, hydraulic fluid and high voltages.
• Use CATIA and other tools to create 3D digital mock‑ups, bills of materials and build procedures.
• Work on‑site in prototyping areas, avionic and fluid‑mechanical test rigs.

Required profile

• Undergraduate studying fluid mechanics or mechanical engineering, remaining enrolled for the full placement.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills and adaptability to a dynamic environment.

• Desirable experience with 3D drawing tools and a solid grounding in mathematics, physics and fluid‑mechanics modules.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CATIA for 3D modelling and design documentation.
