Foreign Qualified Lawyer

About the role

The Legists are seeking a Foreign Qualified Lawyer to join the Government Legal Department in London. You will work alongside senior legal professionals, providing advice to ministers and departmental officials on a wide range of legal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality legal advice across litigation, advisory, commercial and employment law.
• Draft and review legislation, policy documents and contractual agreements.
• Manage a caseload of complex legal issues and represent the department in negotiations.
• Collaborate with other government lawyers, ministers and senior officials.

Required profile

• A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
• Strong analytical judgement and the ability to provide balanced, risk‑based advice.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
• Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UK legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in litigation, advisory, commercial or employment law (any one area is sufficient).
