Forensic Psychologist – Offender Risk Assessment

About the role
This permanent position within the Ministry of Justice Psychology Services team supports prisoners, probationers and staff by applying specialist psychological expertise to reduce risk of harm and re‑offending. The role combines risk assessment, research, consultancy, training and supervision of trainee psychologists.
Key responsibilities
- Provide authoritative advice on offender placement and produce professional opinions for parole, lifer and other reports.
- Develop and manage strategies and programmes for risk assessment, treatment and intervention, including complex cases such as sexual offending and indeterminate sentences.
- Conduct research, gather and analyse data to inform service delivery and policy.
- Supervise and mentor trainee forensic psychologists, delivering clinical supervision and professional development.
- Lead risk assessments, ACCT and self‑harm assessments, and act as a professional or expert witness in parole board hearings and court proceedings.
Required profile
- Qualified and HCPC‑registered psychologist with a professional background in forensic or clinical psychology.
- Proven experience in providing clinical supervision and delivering training to staff.
- Completed training in effective treatment models and best practice.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
