Fostering Support Worker

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Fostering Support Worker to join our proactive team in Wigan. You will play a vital role in supporting kinship foster carers and prospective special guardians, helping children stay safely within family networks when they cannot remain with their parents.

Key responsibilities

• Support kinship foster carers and prospective special guardians to maintain high standards of care.
• Prioritise safeguarding, stability and regulatory compliance.
• Engage carers, build supportive relationships and coordinate with colleagues.
• Access appropriate services for children, young people and families.
• Maintain accurate written records of all work undertaken.
• Participate in foster panels, planning meetings, reviews and case conferences.
• Collaborate flexibly with other agencies and the local community.

Required profile

• Child‑focused practitioner committed to improving outcomes for children and young people.
• Strong interpersonal and organisational abilities, able to work independently and take initiative.
• Ability to work in an anti‑discriminatory manner and to plan, develop and implement programmes.
• Capability to formulate accurate assessments of children, young people and families.

Required skills

• Relevant qualifications such as NNEB, BTEC Nursery Nursing, NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education, NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People, or Health Social Care Level 3.
• Knowledge of equality, diversity, community cohesion, childcare legislation and fostering regulations.
• IT skills for written reporting and the ability to give evidence in court when required.
