Founding Product Owner – Tax Tech Startup

About the role

We are partnering with an ambitious tax‑technology start‑up that is turning dense legislation into executable rules for automated decision‑making. As the first dedicated product hire, you will work hand‑in‑glove with the founders and a Founding Product Designer to shape a disruptive B2B platform from its earliest stages.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end product lifecycle, defining and prioritising the roadmap to keep engineering focus.
• Conduct deep user discovery with accounting clients and translate findings into clear product insights.
• Convert complex legal and compliance requirements into unambiguous user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Collaborate closely with the Founding Product Designer to align functional logic with intuitive UX.
• Work with internal domain experts to map high‑stakes tax rules into deterministic product workflows.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a primary product decision‑maker in an early‑stage startup (ideally employee #1‑20).
• Proven ability to master highly complex, data‑heavy systems such as Fintech, Regtech, Compliance, Legaltech or advanced ERP workflows.
• Data‑driven mindset that prioritises core user value over feature volume.
• Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment with minimal bureaucracy.

Required skills

• Strong product management fundamentals (road‑mapping, backlog grooming, user story creation).
• Excellent analytical skills for translating legislation and user feedback into logical product requirements.
• Ability to conduct user research and synthesize insights into actionable product direction.
