Fractional Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Financial Controller to manage our finance function across US and UK entities on a fractional basis. The role is part‑time, requiring 2–3 days per week, and offers flexibility to work around other client commitments.

Key responsibilities

• Own day‑to‑day finance operations for both US and UK entities, handling bookkeeping, month‑end close, and management reporting.
• Run all transactional processing in Xero, including AP/AR, bank reconciliations, intercompany entries, and payroll.
• Administer stock‑option and equity schemes, maintain the cap‑table, and produce related reports.
• Manage subscription revenue recognition, ARR reporting, and sales‑commission calculations.
• Oversee UK VAT, statutory compliance and US state/sales‑tax compliance with external advisors.
• Maintain cash‑flow forecasts, support year‑end audits, and leverage AI tools to automate reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience running a finance function end‑to‑end in a small business or startup.
• Hands‑on approach to bookkeeping, reporting, and analysis.
• Strong communication skills with senior stakeholders, investors, and external advisors.
• Experience with multi‑entity, multi‑currency structures (US & UK) and intercompany accounting.
• Qualified or part‑qualified (AAT, ACCA, CIMA) – depth of experience valued over title.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Xero.
• Use of AI and automation tools for finance processes.
