Fractional Financial Director – SME Outsourced Finance

About the role

This newly created position sits within a fast‑growing accountancy firm that delivers outsourced finance and advisory services to a broad SME client base. You will act as a Fractional Financial Director/Controller, providing strategic financial leadership while working closely with owners, senior management teams and boards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead outsourced finance relationships for a portfolio of SME clients.
• Oversee management accounts, forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Act as a trusted advisor in regular client meetings, reviewing performance and growth.
• Ensure compliance with statutory reporting, VAT and UK accounting standards.
• Identify financial risks and implement appropriate controls.
• Coach and develop finance teams, both in‑house and outsourced.
• Collaborate with tax, audit and payroll colleagues to deliver integrated advice.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Experience at Senior Manager level (or strong Manager ready to step up) within an outsourcing or business services function.
• Proven track record advising UK SMEs across multiple sectors.
• Commercial mindset with confidence to challenge and influence clients.
• Demonstrated people‑leadership experience in a results‑driven environment.
