Functional Skills Tutor – 1:1 English & Maths Support

About the role

We are seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to provide one‑to‑one tuition in English and Maths for children and young people in Dorchester and surrounding areas. The role supports learners referred by local authorities, helping them build essential skills, confidence and engagement with education.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver personalised 1:1 lessons in Functional Skills English and Maths.
• Adapt teaching materials and approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Support learners with SEND, EHCPs, ASD, SEMH, ADHD, anxiety or school‑avoidance.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to learners and relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain a reliable, patient and engaging tutoring presence.

Required profile

• Minimum six months experience in an educational setting (tutoring, teaching, teaching assistant, mentoring or learning support).
• Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
• Ability to tailor sessions for diverse learning needs.
• Experience with SEND/EHCPs is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Driver’s licence preferred or willingness to travel locally.
