Functional Skills Tutor – Part‑time (5‑15 hrs/week)

About the role

Prospero Teaching is looking for enthusiastic Functional Skills Tutors to deliver one‑to‑one tuition in St Helens. You will help learners of all ages develop essential English and Maths abilities that support their education, employment and personal goals.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver personalised Functional Skills lessons in English and/or Maths.
• Adapt teaching approaches to suit individual learner needs and settings (homes, schools, community venues).
• Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage confidence and achievement.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance and learner outcomes.

Required profile

• Recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE or equivalent) or substantial tutoring experience.
• Proven experience teaching Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
• Ability to conduct effective 1‑to‑1 or small‑group sessions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, encouragement and adaptability in teaching style.
