Funeral Attendant – Full‑time (UK Driver’s Licence required)

About the role

Join the Co‑op funeral service crew in Torquay, providing compassionate support to families while handling the preparation and transportation of the deceased. This full‑time position involves a variety of shifts and on‑call duties, offering comprehensive training for those without prior funeral industry experience.

Key responsibilities

• Collect the deceased from a range of locations with professionalism and empathy.
• Bear coffins and operate funeral vehicles on the day of the service.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment, vehicles and facilities.
• Prepare coffins and engrave name plates.
• Prepare the deceased for viewings and funerals, ensuring dignity and respect.
• Update client management applications with accurate, timely information.
• Safely lift, carry and move coffins using handling aids and follow health‑and‑safety guidance.

Required profile

• Full UK manual driving licence.
• Physical ability to perform manual lifting and moving tasks safely.
• Calm, compassionate response in emotional situations.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to regulatory policies.

Required skills

• Ability to safely lift and move coffins using handling aids.
• Good IT proficiency with computers, tablets, smartphones, printers and scanners.
