General Assistant – Catering (Part‑time)

About the role

Join the kitchen team at Poplar House Retirement Community in Basildon and help prepare and serve nutritious, well‑presented meals for residents. This part‑time position offers a supportive, calm environment without the long hours typical of hospitality roles.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare meals and drinks while adhering to food hygiene standards.
• Support customers and colleagues to deliver a high standard of service.
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in kitchens, communal areas, and resident flats.
• Report any faults or hazards to ensure a safe environment.
• Monitor stock levels and use equipment safely.

Required profile

• Some experience in a domestic or catering environment (desirable).
• Level 2 diploma in housekeeping or catering, or willingness to work towards it.
• Good interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
• Basic understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
