General Driver & Grounds Maintenance Worker

About the role

This temporary position with Rochdale Council involves a blend of driving duties and hands‑on grounds maintenance across the borough. The role is ideal for physically fit individuals who enjoy working outdoors and have a genuine interest in horticulture.

Key responsibilities

• Operate council vehicles to transport staff and equipment to various sites.
• Carry out grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, shrub maintenance and edging using a range of mowers and tools.
• Perform weed removal, street cleansing and litter collection, including emptying litter bins.
• Assist with general street and green‑space upkeep as required.

Required profile

• Physically fit and able to perform labour‑intensive tasks.
• Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
• Flexible to travel across the borough and work overtime when needed.

Required skills

• Full UK driving licence with manual vehicle entitlement.
• Ability to safely operate large council vehicles (assessment required).
• Desirable: Horticulture qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Desirable: Pesticides Application Certificate (PA1 & PA6).
