General Manager – Live In

About the role

We are looking for a live‑in General Manager to lead The Waterhead Inn, a flagship pub and hotel in the heart of Ambleside, Lake District. You will be responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences while driving the commercial performance of the business.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations, including food, beverage, rooms and housekeeping.
• Plan, budget and control costs in line with agreed financial targets.
• Lead and develop the senior team – assistant managers, head chef and head housekeeper.
• Monitor guest satisfaction and ensure service standards are consistently met.
• Manage P&L statements, labour planning and expenditure reporting.
• Implement and refine business procedures to improve efficiency.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a hospitality venue such as a pub, inn or hotel.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of meeting budgetary goals.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and juggle multiple priorities.
• Excellent leadership and people‑development skills.
• Commitment to delivering the highest level of guest satisfaction.
