General Operative – Soldering & Microelectronics (Contract)

About the role

We are seeking a General Operative with strong soldering expertise to join a world‑class defence organisation in Bolton. The role is focused on microelectronics assembly, including soldering under a microscope, and will initially run for 12 months with the possibility of long‑term continuation.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out manufacturing and self‑certification tasks in line with product certification procedures.
• Perform detailed standard assembly and PCB/loom work following defined quality, safety and time standards.
• Contribute to the efficient flow of work and information across the manufacturing area.
• Adhere to health and safety requirements and maintain IPC 610 standards where applicable.

Required profile

• Proven strong soldering experience, preferably with microscope work.
• Background in a Production Technician or Assembly Operative role within a manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with PCB assembly, looming and microelectronics processes.
• IPC 610 certification or training preferred, ESD handling knowledge, and good dexterity for fine work.
• Ability to read and interpret layouts, follow instructions and work flexible shift patterns.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £24.78, increasing to £26.12 after 12 weeks.
• Overtime paid at 1.5× the normal rate.
