General Porter Driver – Relief (up to 3.5t)

About the role

The General Porter Driver provides essential transport services within NHS Scotland, moving goods, supplies and patients safely using vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. This is a relief position covering all shifts – day, night, weekend and bank holidays – to ensure continuous portering support across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Operate vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes to transport equipment, medical supplies and patients.
• Deliver timely and safe portering services to all hospital departments.
• Cover a variety of shift patterns, including nights and weekends, as a relief porter.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any faults promptly.
• Comply with health, safety and infection‑control procedures at all times.

Required profile

• Legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
• Current PVG Scheme membership or willingness to obtain it before start.
• Flexibility to work any shift pattern required by the service.
• Good physical fitness to handle loading and unloading tasks.

Required skills

• Driving vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
• Valid UK driver’s licence.
