General Teaching Assistant (KS1/SEN) – Primary School

About the role

Veritas Education is looking for an enthusiastic General Teaching Assistant to join Heysham Primary School on a full‑time, temporary basis starting in September. The role focuses on supporting Key Stage 1 pupils, with a particular emphasis on those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Key responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers in delivering lessons and managing daily activities.
• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions for SEN pupils.
• Help pupils access learning resources and participate fully in classroom tasks.
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement and inclusive learning environments.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and parents to support children’s social, emotional and academic development.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school.
• Demonstrated experience supporting children with SEN.
• Experience working with Key Stage 1 pupils is highly desirable.
• Patient, adaptable, caring attitude with strong communication skills.

Required skills

• Ability to deliver tailored learning support.
• Effective classroom management techniques.
• Collaboration skills for working with teachers, SENCOs and families.
