Geographic Communications Officer

About the role

We are seeking a Geographic Communications Officer to join the Devon & Cornwall Police Communications Team at its headquarters in Exeter. In this role you will help shape public conversation about policing across Devon and Cornwall, creating clear, engaging content that builds confidence and community understanding.

Key responsibilities

• Write and distribute media releases that highlight proactive policing work and reassure the public.
• Identify and promote positive stories, campaigns and operational successes through media and digital channels.
• Accompany senior officers and policing teams to media events and act as a visible liaison with stakeholders.
• Create engaging content for digital, social, internal and traditional communications platforms.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with media representatives, partners and community organisations.
• Develop and deliver communication strategies aligned with local policing priorities and community needs.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic and creative communications professional with excellent written and verbal skills.
• Strong media handling and stakeholder engagement experience.
• Ability to spot news‑worthy stories and translate complex information into accessible messages.
