Geotechnical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join a respected multidisciplinary consultancy delivering a wide range of geotechnical, ground investigation and infrastructure projects across the UK. Based in Bristol, you will work on residential, commercial and major infrastructure developments, supporting investigations through to design and reporting in a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and undertake geotechnical site investigations and ground assessments.
• Supervise intrusive ground investigations and site works.
• Perform soil and rock logging, sampling and groundwater monitoring.
• Interpret geotechnical and geo‑environmental data and prepare factual and interpretative reports.
• Conduct foundation and earthworks assessments, including slope stability and retaining wall design.
• Coordinate geotechnical laboratory testing programmes.
• Support project delivery from initial investigation through to design.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Ensure health and safety compliance during all site activities.

Required profile

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a geotechnical engineering or ground investigation consultancy.
• Degree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of ground investigation techniques and geotechnical principles.
• Experience preparing geotechnical reports and interpreting site investigation data.
• Knowledge of foundation design, earthworks and geotechnical assessment methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
