About the role
Join the Government Legal Department as a qualified lawyer supporting Ministers and senior officials. You will provide high‑profile legal advice across a wide range of public‑sector matters, from drafting legislation to handling litigation and commercial disputes.
Key responsibilities
- Advise Ministers and departmental officials on legal issues and policy proposals.
- Prepare and review legislation, regulations and policy documents.
- Manage a caseload that may include litigation, commercial, employment and EU law matters.
- Collaborate with other legal professionals across government to deliver consistent, risk‑based advice.
- Maintain confidentiality and, where required, obtain DV security clearance.
Required profile
- A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively about complex legal problems.
- Strong judgment, impartiality and a customer‑focused approach.
- Willingness to develop expertise across advisory, litigation, commercial and employment law.
