GP / Military Medical Examiner

About the role

We are seeking a qualified General Practitioner to act as a Military Medical Examiner for the Ministry of Defence. The role is part‑time, contract based and involves assessing new recruits for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines across several UK bases.

Key responsibilities

• Pre‑screen full GP records of Navy/Marine applicants for medical issues that could affect entry.
• Conduct face‑to‑face interviews and full body examinations (excluding private areas) to gather additional information.
• Make fitness‑to‑serve decisions, referring complex cases to senior Navy doctors.
• Complete required forms, inform candidates of outcomes and maintain accurate records.
• Attend occupational health meetings when needed and declare any conflicts of interest.

Required profile

• Full registration with the GMC and up‑to‑date CPD record.
• Active participation in GMC appraisal and revalidation processes.
• Ability to work on‑site at one of the designated bases (Gosport, Exmouth/Lympstone, Rosyth or Cardiff).
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

• Pro‑rated salary up to £100k (3 days = £60k) paid via PAYE.
